Invoicing and document API

Invoicing API: a numbered invoice, PDF, hosted page and email in one call

ASHDOCS is an invoicing API for developers and small teams. Send a customer and line items and get back a numbered invoice, its PDF and a page your customer can pay from. The same key also generates PDFs, extracts invoice data and runs 51 document tools.

Most teams start with invoices and stay for the rest of the toolkit. Everything below works with one API key, one credit balance and one set of test keys, so you can try the whole thing before you pay for anything.

One key for everything

Invoices, PDF rendering, extraction and the document tools share an API key and a credit balance. There is nothing extra to sign up for when you need a second product.

Free to build against

Test keys cost nothing and do not expire. They never use credits, so CI runs and demos are free, while your plan's rate limit still applies to them.

You pay for results

Credits are used only for work that succeeds. If a job fails, the credits it reserved are released, and drafts and previews never use any.

The invoicing API: invoices from your own data

Your billing data already lives somewhere: an orders table, a subscription system or a timesheet export. One request to the invoicing API turns it into an issued invoice with the next number in your sequence, totals and tax worked out, a PDF in one of 16 designs and a hosted page your customer can open and pay from. Ask for delivery in the same call and it is emailed with the PDF attached. Reminders follow on a schedule, and on paid plans every status change reaches your endpoint as a signed webhook. The request and response, field by field, are on the invoice API page; invoice tracking covers what happens after sending.

PDF generation from HTML, URLs and Markdown

Not every document is an invoice. Reports, certificates, statements and packing slips start as HTML you already know how to write. Post the HTML with your template data, point at a live URL, or upload Markdown, and the API renders the PDF and returns a signed download link that stays valid for an hour, long enough to store the file or pass it to the next step. With HTML, the page size comes from your CSS; URL to PDF supports A4 and Letter. The PDF generation API page compares the inputs, and the HTML to PDF API page covers styling, fonts and large documents.

Invoice data extraction

The same key works in the other direction too. Send a supplier invoice PDF together with a schema of the fields you want, such as vendor, invoice number, date, total and line items, and the extraction endpoint returns them as JSON with a confidence score for each field. That makes it straightforward to post confident results straight into your books and route the uncertain ones to a person. It reads PDFs that contain text; a scanned document needs OCR before extraction, and we can help with that if you ask. Every plan includes an extraction allowance. The details, with a full request and response, are on the invoice data extraction API page.

Integrations for Zapier, Make, n8n, Sheets and Airtable

If your team automates in a no-code tool, you do not need to write the request yourself. Any HTTP step in Zapier, Make or n8n can call the API with your key today, and packaged ASHDOCS apps for all three can be enabled for your account on request while their public listings are reviewed. Google Sheets and Airtable users can export rows to the CSV or XLSX invoice template and import them, or connect the sheet or base through Zapier or Make so each new row becomes an invoice. Every route ends in the same invoicing API, so numbering and tax behave identically. See the integrations hub for each platform's setup.

51 document tools on the same API

Beyond invoices and rendering, the API carries 51 document tools grouped into converting, editing, extracting, securing and generating. Convert Word, Excel or PowerPoint files to PDF, merge, split, compress or watermark them, run OCR, redact personal data, encrypt files with a password, or generate barcodes and QR codes. Each tool is one REST endpoint that takes your file and returns the result. Most cost 1 to 3 credits, a few simple page operations such as rotating pages cost nothing, and failed jobs are never charged. The tools catalogue lists every tool with its endpoint, its options and its credit cost, and the free tools can be used without an account.

Flows: document workflows without code

Some work is a chain of steps rather than a single call: convert a file, extract its data, file the result and tell someone. Flows builds those chains without code. Describe the workflow in a sentence and the assistant drafts the steps for you to review, then the flow runs on a schedule, from a webhook or by hand. 28 apps connect natively, including Google Drive, Notion, Airtable and Stripe, and an HTTP step reaches anything else. Drafting a flow is free, test runs use no credits, and a live run uses the credits of the tools it calls. The use cases pages show complete examples.

Frequently asked questions

What does ASHDOCS do?

ASHDOCS is an invoicing API with PDF tools on the same key. It creates, numbers, sends and tracks invoices, quotes and credit notes, renders PDFs from HTML, URLs or Markdown, extracts invoice data into JSON, and runs 51 document tools. Flows chains those steps together without code.

Do I need separate plans for invoices and PDFs?

No. Every plan covers every product and draws on one monthly credit balance. Issuing an invoice uses 1 credit, and the PDF tools use 1 to 3 credits each, so you choose a plan by volume rather than by feature.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan includes 100 free credits per month and needs no card. Test keys are free on every plan, never expire and never use credits, though plan rate limits apply. Webhooks start on the paid plans, from Starter at $15 a month.

Can I use it from Zapier, Make or n8n?

Yes. Any of them can call the REST API through an HTTP step with your API key. If you would rather use a packaged app, module or node, ask us and we will enable it for your account; the public directory listings are still in progress.
